Testimonial of Client/Staff at Abundant Life Mission: May 5, 2017 is the day my family of three became homeless. Growing up on the East Coast and living a privileged lifestyle was a far cry from having all of my belongings packed in the back of a minivan, on our way to a homeless shelter. I had no experience with anyone or anything associated with homelessness and I was scared. If it were not for Abundant Life Mission, I don't know where we would be today. Little did I know what was in store for myself and my husband. The Mission ABUNDANT Moment Life Two weeks after arriving at the shelter, my husband and I were asked to become resident staff. We were thrown into the everyday, behind-the-scenes happenings and learned as we went. Fast forward two and V years, we are still staff and our lives are forever changed. I count it a privilege to help combat the stigma surrounding homelessness and assist our clients in bettering themselves by helping them set goals, obtain employment and housing and sustaining their households long term. Where Families Find Their Way 1406 10th Ave, Menominee, Mi My time at the shelter has opened my eyes to the crises the average person has to face on any given day. The groups 906.424.4429 Sunday Service 10:00 am Wednesday Service 6:30 pm www.alcmission.org that predominantly make up the homeless population are children, seniors, Veterans, and those with physical and mental disabilities and substance abuse issues. We work closely with schools, DHHS, Veteran's Affairs, medical and mental healthcare providers, and treatment centers. The difference between a state or federally funded homeless shelter and Abundant Life Mission lies in the Mission's integration of daily devotional meetings, Bible studies and church services. Because we have chosen to maintain a religious affiliation, we are not eligible for state or federal funding. We feel that if we take God out of the equation our efforts to help will be for naught. That being said, we rely solely on monet food donations. donations to meet operational expenses every month and our kitchen operates strictly on with Pastor Before I became homeless, I took for granted so much of the things that our clients struggle to obtain and maintain. I feel it is my God given responsibility now to advocate for the homeless and assist them in bettering themselves. (This ad is donated) Dave Pennell Please consider donating to Abundant Life Mission. Our organization is so much more than a shelter. It is a place for our clients to call home during one of the most difficult times of their lives.
