An Impact Statement written by an anonymous resident: Ibecame homeless about 3 years ago. I was bouncing from couch to couch. I wasn't alone though. I have 4 daughters. Sometimes relatives or friends would take one or two to stay with them for a bit. I talked to everyone I could and came across NewCap who suggested St. Vincent de Paul. I called and left a message. They called me back, and we seheduled an appointment. She called the Abundant Life Mission and Church to see if they had room for a family of 5. They did. I nervously went over to the Mission, just to see what it was really about. When I got to the door, I was greeted with a warm smile. I felt no judgment from the people who were there. I filled out the application. They did the background check. I was approved. I left to go get my girls and finish the intake process. On my way to pick up my girls and gather our things, I thought about the direction of my life. I had no plan for us really. For some reason I just felt this was the right decision for us. No more leaning on the kindness of friends and family. When we returned, we finished the intake process. Got to our room. That was a big deal for me, too, to be able to all be together. No other shelters in this area take in families: but Abundant Life does. I remember that first night. I wasn't scared. I didn't think I was making the wrong decision. Everything felt right to me. I felt like I could finally breathe. Didn't have to worry about where we were going to be staying. Didn't need to worry about how I was going to feed my family or how we would shower or do laundry. I felt safe. It didn't take time before we met some of the people here. Everyone is here for their own reasons and no one is better than the next. Everyone has a story, but we are all homeless together. I have been here for a few months now. I am now part of the staff. I have taken care of a lot of my own business such as: getting a driver's license and obtaining copies of my girl's birth certificates. I also signed up for health care and the local housing authority MSHDA. More importantly, I am helping people as well. Abundant Life is here for you to get back on your feet. It's not a warming shelter. They do not kick you out during the day. Of all the shelters in the area, I would recommend The Mission Moment ABUNDANT Life Where Families Find Their Way 1406 10th Avenue Menominee, MI 906.424.4429 www.alcmission.org with Pastor (This ad is donated.) Dave Pennel1 Abundant Life Mission. This place is like a big family. It's a community of its own. The people here really care about you. They want the very best for you and want to help you succeed when you are ready to leave. Some people can't even say that about their own families An Impact Statement written by an anonymous resident: Ibecame homeless about 3 years ago. I was bouncing from couch to couch.
